ALHFA -- Super Mega Baseball 3 League -- Intro

To start off, if you are unfamiliar with the Super Mega Baseball series of video games, then allow me to introduce you to the latest game in the franchise, Super Mega Baseball 3. With gameplay that is reminiscent of the MVP Baseball series, SMB3 is truly one of the best baseball sims ever.

If you need more convincing, here is a montage of pitcher's getting drilled by line drives from SMB2.

What SMB3 does better than many sports games is the amount of customization that it allows. You can edit team names, team colors, team logos, team jerseys, etc. On the player level, you can edit their names, looks, equipment, walk-up music, butt-wiggle, and even attributes.

This provides a greater amount of depth than an EA Sports game would allow, and the developers know that you really want to have fun with a sports sim, so they let you have fun.

In fact, they let me have so much fun that for longer than I would care to admit, I have been fully customizing the entire AL Home Field Advantage fantasy league as a league in SMB3. This means each team has custom jerseys and rosters filled with MLB players.

---

Allow this post to be an introduction to the league, or a teaser, of sorts. In place of the traditional Simulated Home Run Derby, for this season's All-Star Break I will be sharing the work that I have done in recreating our fantasy league in a video game.

Because this has been a work in progress, you may notice that some team names and appearances do not reflect what they currently are in the league. They will remain as the team that they were on the day of its creation.

Please take a look at the first image of the ALHFA SMB3 inaugural season, featuring our two divisions.

You will see the Comerica Park Division and its five teams, as well as the Tiger Stadium Division and its five teams. As this is the very beginning of the season, there is no win-loss record.

"Wait, wins and losses? Does that mean...?"

Yes! Not only has each team been created within the game, but I have set up for all 10 teams to play a complete season against every other team. Details are as such:

The ALHFA SMB3 season will see teams playing a complete 162-game schedule, playing complete 9-inning games, followed by the top four teams moving on to the postseason, playing a best-of-seven series before advancing to the next round. We will then crown a champion.

---

As I write this, it is becoming much longer than I first thought. Therefore, I am breaking this initial post into two parts, with the next installment covering roster selection.

After that, the next two posts will cover each division. First, the five teams from Tiger Stadium, then the five teams from Comerica Park. We will then have a post for the season simulation and league leaders, with the final post covering the playoffs and our champion.
